Sonoco believes it has a responsibility to help improve the quality of life in the communities where it operates.
Each year, we budget 1% of our consolidated pretax income for contributions to nonprofit organizations working to improve education, health and welfare, arts, the environment and to key economic development programs and initiatives to attract industry and jobs.
Our contributions to the Governor’s School for Science and Mathematics in Hartsville, S.C., are helping build a new, state-of-the-art academic center that will more than double the prestigious public high school’s current enrollment and add much-needed facilities. Support from Sonoco also helped build the groundbreaking Sonoco Institute for Packaging Design and Graphics at Clemson University, the first college facility to formally house the packaging design and graphics disciplines under one roof.
Sonoco employees, too, help make the cities and towns where the Company does business better by donating their time, talent and worthwhile community organizations and projects.
