Ismael
Global Technology Manager, Textiles
I have been with Sonoco for six years and my current work location is the Engineering building in Hartsville, S.C. In my job I provide technology support to the global IPD businesses associated with the textile market. I have a PhD in mechanical engineering and at one time served as a professor of mechanical engineering at the University of Puerto Rico.
On-the-job
My job takes me to a number of places almost every year, including Asia, Mexico, South America and Europe. I enjoy working at Sonoco because of the people I work with, there are clear expectations and the culture is up front. I enjoy my job because of the variety in my work assignments and I have an opportunity to interact with diverse cultures and situations.
Off-the-job
Finding balance is challenging with all the travel required in my job. I make a point of taking time to be a Scoutmaster for my younger son’s Boy Scouts of America troop. I also try to attend my older son’s sporting events. And I make an extra effort to spend time with my wife before and after extended trips.
Most memorable moments
I have many memorable moments and consider myself a very lucky man. My favorites are my wedding day, the birth of each of my children and graduation from college.
