Employee profile - Kim

Kim

Area Manufacturing Manager
Rigid Paper and Closures

I joined Sonoco in 1987 as a shift supervisor at Sonoco’s Mt. Olive, N.C., High Density Film Products (HDFP) plant. Over the next 16 years, I had various assignments within HDFP, including project engineering, safety coordinator, plant superintendent and plant manager. In 2003, HDFP was sold to Hilex Poly Co. I stayed with Hilex Poly for about three years before returning to Sonoco in August 2007. Currently, I am area manufacturing manager for the Rigid Paper and Closures (RPC) division.

On-the-job

RPC’s productivity initiatives focus on driving out waste in the manufacturing process through the use of Lean tools and process engineering. We are increasing our division’s number of employees trained in LeanSigma (LS) technology to help build and leverage our productivity projects both now and in the future. Each of our LS students receives individual mentoring and coaching on LS tools and project management to enhance their effectiveness. This role also acts as an interface between plants and Hartsville development engineers to help facilitate successful process improvements that may benefit across the entire business unit.

Off-the-job

I enjoy scuba diving, boating and other water sports. I also love spending time with my two nephews.

Most memorable moments

I received an email not too long ago from a former employee thanking me for the coaching and support I provided over the years. His email reminded me of our responsibility as leaders to help others become the best they can be and that our influence extends far beyond what we realize.
