Part-time, R&D
Molded plastics

I am currently retired after 36 years but still serve in a part-time capacity today. Through the years, I served in jobs ranging from assistant foreman to vice president of global research and development – molded plastics.

On-the-job

During my career, I was given the opportunity to start up a plant when I was only 23 years old and two others over my career. I have worked with a group of very nice, caring people on three continents and across the country who were always open to new ideas. In addition, I was given the resources to hire young engineers and build a strong engineering department whose members now hold most of the key positions within the division. And I have enjoyed watching these young people grow into successful engineers and mangers.

Off-the-job

It was difficult to find good balance in my life while I was working because I traveled a lot and worked long hours. But I did make sure that there was always time for my family each week.

Most memorable moments

In 2006, I won the Sonoco Career Achievement Award presented by the Technology Council and in 2007 won the John R. Crellin Career Achievement Award. All in all, it’s been a great ride, but the high point was and still is finding and marrying my wife.
