The proposal process
The Sonoco Foundation does not have a formal application. Proposals should be simple and straightforward, not voluminous. Review and follow this checklist for an overview of materials not requested. Do not submit your request in a notebook, binder or other cover. Faxed transmissions will not be accepted.
An initial request should be brief and include:
• Organization name, address and telephone number
• Representative to whom all correspondence should be directed
• IRS tax-exempt classification--copy of the organization's 501(c)(3) IRS tax-exempt ruling or determination letter
• Current financial statement
• Summary of the purpose for which you are seeking funds
• Evidence of need
• Specific amount of money being requested from the Foundation and the time element (i.e., one-time support, challenge grant or support for a multiyear period)
• The proposed budget for the project
• How much government funding is received, if any
• What other organizations are being approached for funding and what amount of support is expected from each
• What organizations have committed support for the project and at what level
• Add email and Web site address, if available
Use this checklist when preparing your application for submission.
