Supported areas
For the best results when completing an application, take into consideration the following areas that the Sonoco Foundation supports:

Education
The Sonoco Foundation supports all levels of education, including higher education institutions that supply Sonoco's future leaders and technology experts.

United Way
Sonoco may make contributions to the United Way in cities where the company has facilities.

Requests for United Way contributions are solicited through and approved by the local plant manager.

The Foundation does not consider requests for additional funds from individual agencies supported by the United Way unless requests involve exemplary projects that fall within the Foundation's guidelines.

Social welfare and health
The Sonoco Foundation provides support to health and welfare organizations primarily through grants to United Way campaigns. Requests for support for hospital capital fund drives, youth agencies, emergency services and other health and welfare programs not funded by the United Way will be considered.

Cultural and civic
Contributions are considered for arts and cultural organizations, public broadcasting, museums and other organizations offering cultural enrichment.

Environment
Consideration is given to grants to support conservation and environmental efforts.
