  • Citizen's Advisers, a socially responsible investment firm, honored Sonoco as one of 2004's Top Ten Corporate Citizens in Environmental Stewardship.
  • Sonoco named one of Mergent's Dividend Achievers, a select list of companies whose outstanding dividend records make them excellent investment opportunities. 

August 2004

  • Sonoco named an AARP Best Employer for Workers 50 and Over.

June 2004

  • Abitibi-Consolidated named Sonoco the Supplier of the Year in the operations and production category.
  • Kevin Sands, business development manager, Flexible Packaging, and Rodney Weaver, R&D engineer IV, Flexible Packaging, discussed the challenges and opportunities of retort pouches at the 2004 Stand-up Pouch Conference, sponsored by Packaging Strategies.
  • Bekeart Specialty Film named Sonoco its Supplier of the Year.

May 2004

  • Business Ethics magazine named Sonoco one of the 100 Best Corporate Citizens for a fifth consecutive year.
  • The Packaging Label and Gravure Association presented Sonoco with two awards for packages manufactured at the Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada Flexible Packaging plant.
  • Point-of-Purchase Advertising International recognized Sonoco CorrFlex with a silver and a bronze award in the 2004 Outstanding Merchandising Achievement Awards contest.

March 2004

  • Sonoco was named to Fortune magazine's list of America's Most Admired Companies for a second consecutive year.
  • Sr. Vice President Charles Sullivan explained how consumer trends influence flexible packaging at the Institute of Packaging Professionals' Flexible Packaging Conference 2004.
  • Fortune magazine named Sonoco to its annual Fortune 1000 list, a ranking of America's top companies by revenue.
