Overview
I’ve chosen Sonoco twice. Before coming to Sonoco, I was a cost analyst at Progress Energy. My first 12 years at Sonoco were focused in the quality for consumer plants. After returning, I was the director of administrative productivity and then director of Operating Excellence prior to taking on my current role as director, global industrial quality.

On-the-job
I have quality for the global industrial sector, which includes industrial products, paper, protective packaging, adhesives, recycling, reels and paperboard specialties businesses around the world. Standardization and improving the customer experience are two large tasks in front of us. I’ve had several mentors along the way. They’ve taught me how best to navigate through the company. This kind of advice can be invaluable.

Off-the-job
In my earlier career, I didn’t have much balance: it was all work, all the time. As I’ve matured, I find that if I don’t take time for myself, my family, volunteering in the community, etc., the work actually suffers. It’s about integrating all the parts of your life so that the whole becomes stronger.

Most memorable moments
The best thing about working for Sonoco is the ability to jump in and add value in a huge variety of areas. You’re not in a one-dimensional box, rather, you’re really only limited by your own ability to take on more. We have a unique culture that just isn’t out there at many other companies. We try and help each other to succeed and I believe are genuinely happy when our colleagues achieve great things. It’s more about the team and how can we work together to make Sonoco better.
