Recycling recognition
The Lexington County, S.C., Solid Waste Management program recognized Sonoco's Columbia, S.C., recycling facility for its effective recycling programs in four local schools that have diverted waste from the landfill and saved the schools thousands of dollars in disposal costs.

The S.C. Wildlife Federation presented Sonoco's education specialist at the Columbia, S.C., U.S., recycling facility with its 2006 Conservation Communication Award for work in promoting conservation in South Carolina.

BS 7750 designation
This honor was conferred on Sonoco Europe's Coleford, England, U.K., converting operation in 1996 by the British House of Parliament, for meeting stringent certification requirements. The BS 7750 is equivalent to the ISO 1400 environment management system standard.

United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) 33/50 program award
Awarded to Sonoco based on the company's participation in this voluntary partnership to cut industrial toxic chemical emissions in half over a seven-year period. In just three years, Sonoco successfully reduced emissions by 85%.
